Easy Jalebi Making at Home (Street Style)

Jalebi, or Jilapi, or Jilawii (and sometimes Zulbia) is a sweet popular in countries of the Indian Subcontinent, the Middle East, North Africa and East Africa. It is made by deep-frying a wheat flour (maida flour) batter in Biscuit shape or circular shapes, which are then drenched in sugar syrup. They are particularly popular in the subcontinent during Ramadan and Diwali.

The sweets are served warm or cold. They have a somewhat chewy texture with a crystallized sugary exterior coating. Citric acid or lime juice is sometimes added to the syrup, as well as rose water or other flavours, such as kewra water. (a collected info from wiki)


  • Maida Flour – 2 Cups
  • Curd - 1 Cup
  • Jaggery -1 Cup
  • Water for syrup – ½ Cup
  • Cooking soda – Pinch
  • Oil – for Deep Fry
  • Orange Food Colour – Pinch
  • Green Cardamom powder – ½ T Spoon
  • Sauce Bottle – for Making Jalebi
  • Badam Pista – for garnishing


Step 1

Take Bowl add Maida and cooking soda and mix well Add curd to the above mixture and make a tight batter close the lid and ferment for 24 Hours

Step 2

Next day add Pinch of orange colour to the batter and mix well Take the sufficient quantity in to the sauce bottle and make sure there is no air bubbles Place the kadai add Jaggery and add small quantity of water and cook the syrup until the single thread consistency. Add green cardamom powder to the syrup and cook for few minutes on medium flame Heat oil in the deep kadai on medium flame

Step 3

Try the Jalebi shape sample 2 to 3 times outside and make sure the shape is perfect Check the heat of the by placing the palm on the oil (maintain distance from oil) Now try the Jalebi shape in to the oil and wait for colour changes and take out the Jalebi and keep a side

Step 4

When the Jaggery turns in to single thread constancy switch off the stove Place the Jalebi shapes in to the syrup and soak for 1 minutes and turn on both sides and immediately take out from the Jaggery syrup and take in a plates and garnish with Badam Pista slices.

Step 5

This Jalebi can be done direct from your home with an easily available ingredients and make this Diwali sweetest ever with friends and family.
